The NHS Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Service helps individuals continue their quit-smoking efforts when transitioning from hospital care to the community. This service bridges the gap between hospital-initiated smoking cessation programs and ongoing support in a convenient, local pharmacy setting.
How It Works
Patients who start a smoking cessation program are referred to community pharmacy.
A pharmacist conducts consultations, either in person or over the phone, for up to 12 weeks.
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) initiated in the hospital is reviewed and adjusted as needed, with supplies provided free of charge.
Patients can select the pharmacy most convenient for them to access this service.
By supporting continued efforts to quit smoking, the service contributes to improved health outcomes, reducing tobacco-related illnesses and their impact on NHS resources.
